We had a great stay for our last 4 nights in Japan at the Mustard Hotel. It's a modern, simple and chill place to land - hip but not pretentious. It was unlike any other hotel we stayed at while in Japan. They were super accommodating as well, e.g., we weren't able to book a room big enough for the three of us (we were traveling with a 13 y.o.) but pricing was reasonable enough that we were able to book a second room and they were able to make them adjacent. The lobby and partially covered outdoor entranceway area are both great places to hang out to get your day going or take a break - where you can enjoy the excellent coffee/tea and tasty snacks/sandwiches (bagels! not exactly NYC but great in their own way) available at the lobby cafe. We all loved being able to borrow records from the lobby to play in our hotel rooms. We also loved that there wasn't a TV in the hotel room - not for everyone but fine with us. Rooms are a bit tight but nicely setup with comfortable beds / pillows / linens. My wife and I really enjoyed the bar at night, it has a great vibe and the bartenders & music were very cool. The absolutely BEST part of staying at the Mustard hotel though was being in Shimokitazawa - it turned out to be one of our favorite areas we visited while in Tokyo - and a fairly quick subway ride to areas like Shibuya, Shinjuku & Ebisu.

So quiet in a little residential neighborhood. Coffee shop downstairs is insanely good and open at 7am, a Lawsons and a Family Mart are close by in walking distance if you're in need. There are tons of incredible places to eat in this area and in walking distance to many, many more. The hotel is situated between 2 train stops that can take you to Shinjuku or Shibuya station in 10 minutes or less where you can pretty much get anywhere from. If you are big on walking there are many pedestrian/bicycle only paths and small side streets to get to parks in the area or surrounding neighborhoods. Check in was easy and wasn't invasive or complicated. There is a water bottle filling station, a microwave and washing machine in the common area of each floor. The room was essentially a bed and a desk with a closet area as was to be expected, but not cramped. Bathroom was clean and the water pressure and temp were great. It was perfect, peaceful and quiet place after a long day exploring Tokyo. The hotel held my bags after check out while I spent my last day walking around before heading to the airport. It was about a $50 USD cab ride to and from the hotel to Haneda Airport. The hotel was clean and quiet, incredible location and helpful staff. Highly, highly recommend.

It's my second time staying here and I still feel great about this hotel. The amenities are reasonable and the design of the hotel is also quite well done, as expected for newer hotels in Tokyo. The best part of this hotel is its location, I'd book this again in a heartbeat just because it's located in/near Shimokitazawa. It's a part of the new development on the old Odakyu train tracks, so there are a bunch of new trendy shops and cafes in the immediate area. Within a 10 minutes walk towards Daita there is also a group of shops and restaurants forming the development "Bonus Track". Definitely go there to have a look. You can easily spend 1-2 days in Shimokitazawa alone with so many amazing shops and restaurants in the area. It is also very easy for you to get to Yoyogi-Uehra for Yoyogi Park and cafes in Kamiyama-cho. The same metro line can bring you to Harajuku, Shibuya and Kichijoji as well. I'd recommend this hotel for younger solo travellers or young couples who are keen to mingle with other people. Sidewalk coffee roasters is located in the lobby and they have amazing coffee. There's a outdoor seating area for guests to hang around and there is also a bar on site.

I enjoyed my stay at Mustard Hotel. The style and atmosphere of the place was great. The staff were very helpful. The small cafe, bar and deck were very pleasant. It is a five minute walk to Shimokitizawa following the path of the railway line which has now been run underground. The hotel wasn't more than a few minutes walk to the new shopping area, restaurants and Tsutaya Books. The Troubled Peach, Mother and Heaven's Above are all nearby. A big arigatou gozaimasu to the guy running the cafe who found my dropped passport. Subarashi deshta. Shimokitazawa is getting trendier everyday but still keeps its originality. I think it was better twenty years ago but I would. It is a great place if you haven't been before. Be a polite visitor.

The spacious rooms, soundproof walls, lots of hot water, the first floor window didn’t have a view but it could be opened, with privacy, for fresh air, the close, easy access to three train lines, the deck out front for sitting, eating and drinking, and watching people, the friendly and helpful front desk staff, the architecture with lots of natural light. Located in busy Shimokitazawa but on a quiet, peaceful, pleasant and sometimes lively neighborhood. Oh, it’s located on a pedestrians only street, fabulous. The mattress was made in Japan, it was the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on, good pillows. The linens are high quality.
